Liposuction and Cosmetic Surgery – The Overseas Warning
Liposuction and other cosmetic procedures are in high
demand, but a warning has been issued to patients hoping to get a
cheap fix abroad.
Liposuction is much sought after by men and women across the UK
looking for a permanent solution to stubborn fat deposits. In fact,
liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures.
Cosmetic procedures on the NHS are hard to come by – only those
cases with a medical grounding or psychological problem can get it
free. But some people are so desperate for liposuction or other
major cosmetic procedures that they turn to cosmetic surgeons
abroad offering cheaper prices. As a result thousands of UK
patients have travelled abroad for liposuction, tummy tucks or
breast enlargements.
Liposuction Abroad
Having any cosmetic procedure abroad, including liposuction, can
pose dangers. Cosmetic surgery should always be carried out by a
reputable surgeon with the relevant insurances and qualifications.
The British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic
Surgeons have spoken out about the problem of patients travelling
abroad for liposuction and other cosmetic procedures. Botched jobs,
or cases with complications following surgery abroad, are putting
an unnecessary strain on the NHS who are left to pick up the
pieces. Patients who have had liposuction abroad, tempted by
cheaper prices, are turning to the British health service for
follow-up care.
Cosmetic Surgery – Home and Away
People undertaking liposuction or cosmetic procedures should
only use registered and reputable cosmetic surgeries in the UK. The
government has warned that the NHS shouldn't be used as a follow up
health service for botched cosmetic operations abroad. A poll of
NHS surgeons revealed that a third of those questioned had known of
cases involving complications as a result of cosmetic surgery
abroad.
Those who want liposuction and are considering going abroad are
being asked to think carefully about where they decide to have
their liposuction – what may sound like a financial bargain could
cost heavily on their health.
Liposuction – Don't Make Cheap Mistakes
The trend to undergo liposuction, tummy tucks and other cosmetic
procedures abroad has been put down to the proliferation of cheap
flights abroad. But those that are tempted by the prices run the
high risk of life-threatening complications as a result of
liposuction or surgery abroad. Complications can include
infections, clots and blood poisoning, as well as patients being
unhappy with the results of their cosmetic procedure.
