Liposuction – 'Moobs' and the 'Menopaunch'
Liposuction is attracting record numbers of middle-aged
men desperate to fix their 'moobs' and 'menopaunch'.
More middle aged men are seeking out liposuction to help them
come to terms with their middle aged spread. In fact, cosmetic
surgery for men is soaring. As procedures such as liposuction and
tummy tucks are increasingly in the public eye, more men are coming
forward with body issues. This has been attributed to a combination
of increased access and availability of procedures such as
liposuction. Liposuction demand has also been attributed to a
heightened awareness of cosmetic procedures as a result of TV
programmes featuring plastic surgery make-overs, and high profile
celebrities showing off their surgery and liposuction.
Liposuction for a Masculine Contour
Some cosmetic surgeons are even coming forward recommending
specific cosmetic surgery to deal with male issues such as 'man
boobs' – breast reduction operations or targeted liposuction can
fix the problem. Gynecomastia is common amongst men, affecting
between 40 to 60%, and overdeveloped breasts on men can cause huge
self consciousness for some. Liposuction is considered an effective
approach to permanently remove localised fatty tissues, helping
achieve a more masculine chest contour.
Liposuction for Localised Fatty Deposits
Liposuction can help remove localised areas of fat, which is why
middle-aged men are paying thousands for liposuction on their
'moobs'. According to a recent survey, middle aged men are opting
for liposuction to suck out up to five pints of stubborn fat, as
well as a number of other cosmetic procedures such as eye lid lifts
to take years off their age. It's a phenomenon that has been dubbed
the 'menopaunch'. Figures suggest the number of men opting for
liposuction and cosmetic surgery has shot up by more than 140% in
the past five years.
Cosmetic Surgery for Middle Aged Men
Cosmetic surgeons say the over-fifties are queuing up to take
decades off their real age with procedures such as removing saggy
skin around the eye and liposuction. Liposuction however is
recommended only on stubborn fat, not used to cure obesity. The
number of men coming forward to reduce the size of their breasts
with liposuction has increased eight-fold in the the past three
years. The fact that high profile men of a certain age have been in
the media spotlight for cosmetic procedures, such as liposuction
has helped raise the profile of cosmetic surgery for ordinary
men.
