Tummy Tuck – Mum's the Word
Pregnancy can stretch a woman's body, leaving new mums with a
poor body image – a tummy tuck can fix what exercise and diet
can't.
It can be soul destroying counting calories and exercising hard
– even more so if all that effort and energy isn't fixing the
problem. Many women who have experienced pregnancy however discover
that no matter how hard they try, they simply can't shift the slack
stomach and stretch marks – which is where a tummy tuck can
help.
Tummy Tuck – New Mum, New Stomach
A tummy tuck can sound like the perfect solution for mums who
simply can't shift weight from their tummy. One woman in her
forties told a newspaper of her £7,000 tummy tuck after giving
birth to three babies and simply being unable to shift her excess
weight. She told the tabloid she committed five years to dieting,
cardiovascular exercise and targeted exercises such as sit-ups, but
said she still 'looked pregnant.' Opting for a tummy tuck took
courage, but she felt it was the only option left to her.
Distended Stomach Prompted Tummy Tuck
The waistline is particularly vulnerable to pregnancy – the
stretching can cause a permanent misshaping that can't be corrected
no matter how much exercise of dieting you do. The mother who
turned to a tummy tuck had spent years running, cycling, playing
tennis and doing pilates. But despite clearly being fit, her
stomach refused to shrink. It was, without the help of a tummy
tuck, beyond repair. Before the tummy tuck, the mum had to dress in
baggy clothes because she felt self conscious about the huge bulge;
she hid herself from her husband and avoided being seen naked and
was even approached by strangers asking her when her baby was due –
despite no longer being pregnant. The tummy tuck was a response to
years of misery and heartache.
Tummy Tuck – Her Only Hope
The lack of abdominal support because of damaged stomach tissue
also left her with back pain – a tummy tuck was her only hope to
repair the muscle and trim the excess skin. The tummy tuck needs to
be done by only the best surgeons – although tummy tucks are in
huge demand, they are one of the most painful and extensive
cosmetic procedures available. But despite the dilemma of spending
thousands of pounds on the operation, despite the battle of
conscience around whether she was just being vain or selfish, and
despite the risks inherent in all surgery – the mum knew her
stomach was ruining her life. She wanted to stop hating her body
and be a positive role model for her children.
Tummy Tuck: The Results
Five weeks after her tummy tuck, the mum of three did a 12 mile
bike ride. She insisted it wasn't about body fascism or striving to
be perfect – but to fix her damaged stomach tissue. She told the
press: “I do feel a nagging sense of guilt that my perfect tummy
was so quickly achieved, and that I've ended up with a body not
just repaired, but better than the one I had before....But now [her
distended stomach]is gone, and I don't ever want to see it again.
It is nice to see my toes.”
