Rhinoplasty – Sniffing Out Cosmetic Surgery
Rhinoplasty procedures have boomed in recent years as more
people sniff out a cosmetic nose job.
Having a big or misshapen nose may seem like a feature that can
add character to a face, but for many men and women it can feel
mortifying. Unlike other flaws we may feel we have (real or
illusionary), it's impossible to hide your nose away from what can
feel like judgmental and prying eyes. It's no wonder that
rhinoplasty, or nose jobs, remain so popular and sought after for
both sexes. Rhinoplasty entails the reshaping of the nose by
reducing the hump on the bridge of the nose, changing the tip shape
on the nose, altering the angle between the upper lip and the nose,
or narrowing the nostrils. The kind of rhinoplasty surgery you will
have will depend on what you want specifically from your cosmetic
surgery.
Rhinoplasty – Facing up to Unhappiness
For those who have suffered a lifetime of embarrassment, shame
or unhappiness because of the shape or size of their nose, the
recovery time of 10 to 21 days to heal from a rhinoplasty is more
than bearable. All rhinoplasty operations result in swelling or
bruising which subsides usually within three weeks. Although having
a nose that leaves you feeling deeply unhappy about your appearance
is difficult in teenage years, it's recommended children under the
age of 16 should not have a rhinoplasty as the nose is still
growing up to this age. The optimum age to have a rhinoplasty is
from the age of 16 to the thirties, although there is no age cut
off date for nose jobs.
Rhinoplasty: Ten Years Younger Culture
The increase in demand for rhinoplasty procedures has been put
down to a cultural shift in the public attitude to cosmetic
surgery. Programmes such as the American hit drama Nip/Tuck, as
well as popular British series such as Ten Years Younger, have all
pushed cosmetic procedures such as rhinoplasty into the public eye.
And as more high profile celebrities come forward to show off their
rhinoplasty, tummy tuck or breast enhancement, cosmetic surgery is
increasing its influence. Patients are coming forward as
rhinoplasty becomes more normalised and fewer inhibitions alongside
vast improvements in medicine and technology means more of us are
lining up to go under the surgeon's knife. The steep rise in
rhinoplasty procedures and other cosmetic surgery in the past
decade indicates a cultural shift in the stereotypical British
reluctance towards the nip and tuck culture. It isn't just glamour
models that are influencing a wide spectrum of British society to
consider a rhinoplasty, which they may not have considered before.
Prominent figures such as General Sir Michael Jackson, who was the
Chief of the General Staff had his eyelids trimmed to improve his
sight on the battle field – while taking years of his real age.
