Tummy Tuck Demand Grows with Obesity Epidemic
Demand for the tummy tuck has soared in the past five years as
more people opt for body corrective surgery to cope with the side
effects of extreme weight loss.
Obesity has been on the medical radar for the past few years as
the UK's waistlines continue to expand. But as more people are
waking up to obesity and taking radical steps to lose weight – more
people are coming forward for cosmetic surgery to fix the bits diet
and exercise can't. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) fixes the
stomach's muscle tissue to get rid of distended stomachs and trims
excess skin that's left sagging as a result of extreme weight loss.
And as well as the tummy tuck, other cosmetic procedures are in
increased demand to cope with the fall out of post obesity weight
loss – including breast reduction for men and women and breast
uplifts.
The Tummy Tuck: Post Obesity Surgery
Although some may criticise the boom in post obesity surgery,
such as tummy tucks and breast uplifts, many people who have
undergone extreme weight loss find that cosmetic surgery is their
only hope. It can be devastating putting yourself through a hard
regime of exercise and diet only to end up with a figure that may
be lighter, but leaves you feeling ugly and unhappy. But extreme
weight loss can result in unwanted side effects. It's no wonder
that demand for the tummy tuck has increased by around 31%, with
male breast reductions up by 24%. The increase in tummy tucks is in
direct correlation to the rise in obesity, with just over 20% of
men and women in Britain officially classed as clinically
obese.
Tummy Tuck Makes All the Difference
Plastic surgeons are predicting that the tummy tuck, or
abdominoplasty, will become the most in demand cosmetic procedure
in the next decade as a result of the obesity epidemic. Patients
who have opted for a tummy tuck or breast reduction said they did
so after immense effort to loose huge amounts of weight. The tummy
tuck was necessary to address the feelings of devastation at the
vast folds of skin that left them feeling abnormal or ugly. It can
be heartbreaking for people who have undergone such an achievement
to be left feeling unhappy with their post weight loss stomachs – a
tummy tuck could make all the difference.
