Veinwave - Frequently asked questions
i) Do I need a consultation?
Yes – the consultation is very important as it determines the
appropriate medical treatment. Your consultation will be carried
out by Dr Newman.*
ii) How much will this cost?
Treatments are tailored rather than ‘off the shelf’ packages, so
it’s important we assess your condition before quoting
prices.
iii) Is it the same as laser treatment?
This isn’t laser treatment. The technique is called
thermocoagulation, which means the skin is penetrated safely and
effectively using microwave technology. Research shows laser
treatment is not particularly effective in eradicating leg veins.
Also, facial veins (particularly around the nose) don’t respond
well to laser treatment.
iv) Is microwave technology dangerous?
Not at all. The microwaves penetrate the tissue to approximately
0.5mm – 2mm, which has no adverse effects.
v) Will there be any scarring or pigmentation?
Thermocoagulation does not cause scarring or hyperpigmentation
when administered properly. If you are anxious
about the possibility of scarring, Dr Newman’s Clinic is happy
to do a skin test.
vi) Will the veins come back?
No. We keep a video record of your veins before and during
treatment. As part of your condition, other veins may develop but
not in the same area.
