COMPLICATIONS WITH GASTRIC BANDING

Complications are not common and are seldom serious.

If you have any queries or concerns please discuss with the nurses or your consultant.

  • Bruising or swelling may occur around the ports. The swelling may take a couple of weeks to settle down.

  • Wound infection is an occasional problem and settles down with antibiotics in a week or two.

  • An occasional problem is migration of the band upwards which may require another operation to reposition it.

  • Aches and twinges may be felt in the wound for up to 6 months.

  • It is quite common to have numb patches in the area surrounding the wound, this can take up to two to three months to improve.
